Woodcarvings in progress are carvings that I am working on but got "stuck" for some reason and need to learn the correct technique before proceeding. It usually means that I got to a certain point and didn't want to ruin the carving so I am waiting for an inspiration and/or divine intervention.
This is a "shallow relief" project. I need to learn to carve the water and need to put something else in the carving other than the lighthouse (I don't know what yet).
This is a "medium relief" carving. It will be a wood spirit when finished -- I made some mistakes and need to figure out how to correct them without ruining the project. The wood for this project is butternut.
This is a whimsical house carved in cottonwood bark. It needs a set of stairs to go up to the front door.
This will be a "Santa" when finished -- currently, just a work in progress. It is being carved out of a birch log.
This carving will be a "Cigar Store Indian" when finished -- whenever that will be! He is approximately 21" tall and the biggest "in-the-round" carving I have attempted.
This carving is a French Musketeer and is approximately 17" tall. He also has a looooong way to go.
This caricature will be a Mexican Cowboy when finished. I need to carve a cigarette in his hand and then he is ready to be painted.

Reindeer -- for Santa. How many reindeer does he have? Need to finish and paint.
The topper for a Gargoyle cane. My daughter would like me to carve gargoyle book ends for her -- easier said than done. This is for practice except I haven't worked on it in a couple of years.
Some of these are works in progress and some are completed and just need to be painted. Wow, when you seem them all together it looks like I need to get my "you-know-what" in gear and done 'git em done.
Bookends being carved out of mahogany and three WWII military men.
A moose.
As you can see, I have a lot of started, but unfinished, projects -- hmmmm, I wonder if this has any deep psychological significance. Maybe I need to finish these soon to dispel any rumors regarding my psychological well-being!
